Deck-Choices for Battle Festa

Hey people,

as already stated in my previous article, this one will be about my deck-choice for the japanese Battle Festa in Tokyo in November.

Choices are:

Fighting
A deck, that has the power, to hit for high numbers for low energy-cost.
My favorite build would be the Tyrantrum-version, since it has pretty good matchups all over the current meta. But that build would have a bad time against the new Metal decks, because of Aegilash EX, that can't be attacked by Pokémon with special energy attached. Another build would be Big Basics Garbodor. With a heavy Garbodor line it can do pretty good against Metal and Pyroar and has some really good consistency, so I think thats the way to go.
A possible list, that I would run (without testing it yet) would be:

Pokémon
3 Landorus EX
2 Mewtwo EX
1 Lucario EX
1 Hawlucha
3-3 Garbodor
13

Trainer
1 Lysandre
1 Colress
1 Xerosic
2 Korrina
1 Skyla
4 N
4 Professor Juniper
4 Ultra Ball
1 Startling Megaphone
1 Computer Search
2 Switch
3 VS-Seeker
4 Float Stone
4 Muscle Band
2 Fighting Stadium
35

Energy
4 Strong Energy
4 DCE
4 Fighting Energy
12

Metal
This is a new deck, that comes up with the Phantom Gate Set.

It is in some way Eels for Metal, but with bigger variety and some attackers, that can do pretty well in the current meta.
First we got Dialga EX, which is kind of like Chaizard EX (Combustion Blast), but better. If you don't know, what it does, here you go:
[M][C][C] Chrono Wind: 60 damage.
If the opponent's Active Pokemon is a Pokemon-EX, it cannot attack during your opponent's next turn.
[M][M][C][C] Fullmetal Impact: 150 damage.
Discard 2 [M] Energy attached to this Pokemon.
The first attack can be pretty disruptive, if the opponent has no chance to switch out his active, but it's the second attack, that makes this card so interesting. Since it can hit for 170 with a Muscle Band it can OHKO many popular attackers. And discarding 2 energy is no problem, if you have some Bronzong on your bench.
The second one will be Aegilash EX:
Ability: Mighty Shield
Prevent all damage done to this Pokemon by
attacks from your opponent's Pokemon that have any Special Energy attached to them.
[C][C][C] Slash Blast: 40+ damage. Does 20 more damage for each [M] Energy attached to this Pokemon.
Because of that ability you are safe from about every hard hitting attacker in the current meta, if they don't run garbodor. The attack is kind of like Keldeo EX's Secret Sword, and also works great with your energy acceleration engine. Since we only run Metal Energy, the attack does 100 base dmg and can OHKO EXs for 6 Energy with a Muscle band.
The third one is a card, that already saw some use, but got really good with the new Metal support, and also helps this deck a lot agains some bad match-ups:
Cobalion EX
The first attack gives this deck an even better matchup against any kind of decks, that run special energy, and the second one kills anything, especially pyroar (with a Muscle Band)

The weakness in this deck can be a great problem, since all pokemon are weak to fire. But since there are not many popular fire attackers out there, except for Pyroar, I think this risk is managable.
There is also the new Steel Shelter stadium card, which prevents your pokemon from special conditions, which makes it harder for your opponent, to disrupt you, or get easy KOs with poison.
I don't run switch, because retreating is no problem, with an accelleration engine, that gets the energy right from the discard pile.

A possible list would be:
Pokémon
4-4 Bronzong
1 Aegilash EX
2 Cobalion EX
1 Mewtwo EX
2 Dialga EX
14

Trainer
2 Evo Soda
3 Ultra Ball
2 Steel Shelter
3 Muscle Band
2 Battle Compressor
3 VS Seeker
4 N
4 Professor Juniper
1 Xerosic
1 Colress
2 Pokemon Fan Club
1 Lysandre
3 Skyla
1 Computer Search
1 Sacred Ash
2 Startling Megaphone
1 Max Potion
36

Energy
10 Metal Energy
10

Plasma
This is a deck, that I personally never really liked, but that has undeniably the chance to do well.
The strategy is the same as every other Plasma-build, so I will just give you a list, that I would feel comfortable with:
Pokémon:
2 Lugia EX
4 Deoxys EX
2 Thundurus EX
2-2 Bearctic
12

Trainer
4 Colress Machine
4 Muscle Band
2 Startling Megaphone
1 Xerosic
2 Switch
3 Ultra Ball
2 Plasma Ball
1 Battle Compressor
3 VS Seeker
1 Computer Search
3 N
4 Professor Juniper
2 Lysandre
2 Colress
1 Xerosic
35

Energy
4 DCE
4 Plasma Energy
4 Rainbow Energy
1 Lightning Energy
13

So far about my deck-choices.
If you have any suggestion - I am happy for any help I can get.
Feel free to leave some comments, if you find mistakes in my deck-strategies.
Maybe something I forgot, or something, that can help.
I did not go over match-ups against new decks, or counters to cards, that came out with Phantom Gate, like Team Flare Tools, because I don't know, how good Manectric EX, Gengar EX and co. will do, yet.
There will be some other Battle Festa, before the one in Tokyo, so I might be able to see, what kinds of decks do well here in Japan, and then make my final decision and decklist depending on that.

Today we will finally have our small Booster draft here in Uni, that I bought some more cards for:
I will provide you with the outcome and the pulls in my next article, so, stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed this article, too.
The next one is coming soon.

Greets from Japan

  1. Yo Hannes. It would be great if you would copy paste translations for the Phantom Gate cards used in your post. Apart from that, great article.
Looking forward to your future work :)

    1. Oh yeah, I'll remember that the next time..^^
For me it's just the way, that I alreay play with those cards, since I have the Blastoise and the Metal deck already built, so I'm used to them, and don't have to think about what they do..^^'
Thank you for your feedback. :D
